Eat, Pray, Love
Went to see this girlie movie last week and want to give you my Christian response. I like Julia Roberts and have enjoyed her movies. She does credit to the roles she has played during her career. If viewed from a strictly world view, many ways to God, it was a nice enough movie. What saddened me is that her character's search for truth didn't bring her to Jesus. Like so many who are searching for meaning and purpose to their life they think to fill the GOD Hole with many worldly views. Drugs or sex etc. anything that will take away their pain for a while. But, God is the only one who can meet the deepest needs of our hearts. Even as a successful author, by the worlds standards, she felt she still was losing herself. Scripture teaches that we need to die to self to find ourselves. Of course many of scriptures teachings run opposite to worldly views: that's why they are so hard to understand, but that seems to be the way He works. Without my commitment to Christian ethics and an understanding of who I am in Chirst my selfish nature would run rampant. Only in living my faith and my desire to know Him have brought me peace and contentment with myself and my personal situation. Only in making a commitment to thinking on all that is right and good in my life, having a grateful heart, knowing how loved I am because I can feel it. Knowing all things work together for good to those who love Him back can I find hope for tomorrow. Now, I am not saying bad things won't happen to good people but rather what scripture says," I can endure all things in and through Christ who strengthen's me". If the Lord had been at the center of her marriage they could have worked it out. That is to say, dying to self and living for the others best interest. When two people can do this you have a marriage living up to it's fullest potential. Well she finds another to love at the end but I wonder how long it will take before she feels she is losing herself again. At best she may have learned that she/we are part of a larger reality and continue her search for enlightinment.
